I've been working on a compilation of acoustic guitar music. It's been a rather lengthy process, as musical composition is a component to the rest of my body of work.
"Test Subject" is a somewhat moody piece that was incorporated into a sculptural work that dealt with animal rights and genetic engineering. The audio track can be heard here.
Some of these works range from sounding somewhat surreal to impressionistic. Some of them have latin rhythms and some modernist chord progressions. I began writing some of these pieces in 1996, when I lived in the Pocono Mountains. Some of the images here, show some notes on some sheet music I'm still dealing with. If I don't transcribe music and make a concerted effort to compose these pieces, I often end up with garbage.
I could spend forever composing these pieces, such that I end up with what I might call the "Gordian Knot syndrome". You spend all this time composing and you never get around to resolving what you have. That's where improvisation becomes handy.
